In Which Sparron Laughs When It's Not Funny

August 22, 1177

Friends put up with their friends' children--or so Sparron had to remind himself as Searle's son munched away on the doll's wooden foot. Arkon would grow out of the oral fixation, and it wasn't as if he was at an age where such maturity was expected yet anyway. Besides, it could have been much worse. Lettie was out visiting at her brother's place and she'd taken Rennie with her; if Arkon was all Sparron had to deal with during this visit, then it had been well-timed. He was a shy boy and not yet verbal besides. He wouldn't ask questions or repeat anything he heard if he was even paying attention at all--not at all like his sharp, curious, outgoing sister.

"This'll be the sixth figure to lose his feet since the teething started." A fond sort of smirk on his face, Searle shook his head; Sparron tried not to notice the way his hair bounced about. "At least he's not gnawing on the furniture."

If that was a joke, it wasn't much of one, but Sparron gave a half-hearted chuckle anyway. Friends did that. "The furniture. Maybe that's what I should tell Camaline to make her stop sniffing around the brothels."

"She's still on that, then?"

He sighed. "She's been on it all week. It's ridiculous. She doesn't even like kids. She just wants to get her asshole father off her back."

"Well, as someone who's met Camaline's father, I can't blame her." Searle laughed, even though that one hadn't been funny at all. Sparron compromised with a grimace. "I think you're right, though. Even if she found a girl who was pretty much you with tits and she got herself knocked up and was willing to sell it, there's no accounting for the father."

"Exactly." Now he was smiling for real. He'd forgotten that Searle could be clever if all the feelings were out of the picture. "Thank you for that."

"Don't mention it." Another of his grins taking hold of his lips, Searle lightly kicked at the side of Sparron's boot. Did friends do that? He'd certainly never gotten a kick from Jadin or Isidro, or at least one that hadn't aimed to hurt. Come to think of it, he'd never even gotten one from Camaline. "You know what might work, though?"

Sparron swallowed. There was some odd spark in Searle's eye that told him he was better off not asking. He knew he'd go home later and wish he'd listened. "What?"

"If you have a three-way with me and Lettie."

He'd been wrong. The regret hadn't waited for him to get home. "That might just be the dumbest thing that's ever come out of your mouth."

"No, I'm serious." And for once, he sounded like he was. Sparron found himself suddenly grateful for Arkon's presence; he'd promised himself that he'd never yell at Searle again, but if the baby hadn't been around, he wouldn't have had an excuse not to do so. "Your father is a first cousin to both of Lettie's parents, and Camaline's mother was one to Lettie's father. If you were in our bed one night and you just happened to be a little careless, and Camaline took to stuffing her dresses like she was planning to anyway... well, who's to say that the little red-haired, ice-eyed baby isn't hers?"

If only this had been a joke. This one... this one might have been funny. Only not. "I don't know. All the people wondering about Lettie's baby, maybe?"

Searle shrugged. "So we'll dig an empty grave and fake a stillbirth. That shouldn't be too hard."

Faking a stillbirth wouldn't be hard? Dear God--was he even listening to himself? "Searle, I am not having sex with your wife!" Or you again, if that's what this is really about!

"Oh come on, please?"

Oh dear Lord. Sparron hadn't seen eyes that wide since the whole love thing had still been an issue. Why didn't Searle get it? Any of it? It was over. It was never going to happen again, not ever. And how dare he use Camaline's problems as an excuse to bring it up again.

Besides... "Why the hell would Lettie agree to that anyway?"

I can't believe it's the last full week of January already :S

WOULD Lettie agree?

And Searle is totally trying to get back in Sparron's pants, I mean, it wouldn't have to be a three-way, Sparron could just jump in bed with Lettie and it could be over with. But I guess, Searle will have to keep it in his pants until Lettie gets pregnant. It wouldn't do well if the kid ended up looking exactly like Searle :s

I guess we'll find out soon? :S

Oh, Searle definitely wants back into Sparron's pants. But ulterior motives aside, I think the odds of either Sparron or Lettie consenting to sex with each other would increase if Searle was involved.

Well... Searle's a close-ish relative too. Octavius and Alina were first cousins, as are Severin and Roderick, so while it would be suspicious it's not like anyone could concretely prove that it wasn't Sparron and Camaline's kid (at least, given that DNA testing didn't exist in 1177).

But yeah, if all parties involved actually agree to this, Searle having sex with Lettie would be off the table for a while. Well... vaginal intercourse, at least. He wouldn't have to totally keep it in his pants :P

WHOA WHOA WHOA. Please tell me that Searle broached this idea with Lettie before even considering bringing it up to Sparron. Yes, Searle wants a three-way -- but there is so much more at stake than that. Even more than Camaline getting Roderick off her back.

This is Lettie's body, health, child and potentially life at stake. She needs to think about this long and hard before she agrees to anything. And if she says, "Hells no!" Searle needs to let it rest at that.

Besides, there have to be easier ways to get Sparron into bed again ... somehow ...

Oh that's moronic. That's worse than the brothel idea. That's way worse than the brothel idea. Not only is it wrong on about 1000 levels, and their families too smart not to figure it out (even IF they got through Camaline's "pregnancy" without anyone noticing) but someone would have to be complicit in all of this outside of the four of them because *someone* would have to attend to Lettie, pretend to attend to Camaline and ultimately deliver Lettie's baby to Camaline. And WHY would Lettie just give up her child to Sparron and Camaline??? That she carried in 9 months of discomfort and pain and sickness and delivered in agony? That's one hell of a present. Sparron, this is the point where you need to ask yourself whether friends would do something or not. And imagine having to explain this situation to your child someday. Like, "Well son, know how you look strikingly like Searle's wife?" And then, would they just keep trying until Lettie got pregnant? And would Lettie being having sex with Searle in the interim? How could they be certain the baby isn't Searle's? AND WHY WOULD ANY WOMAN AGREE TO SCREW HER HUSBAND'S LOVER?? I need to take a walk.

Morgaine and Pen:

It goes without saying that this is a monumentally bad idea :S

We'll see what Lettie thinks of all this in the next post (which will probably be tonight since I had some issues with my planned Ashelia photoshoot), but suffice to say... she has a lot more common sense than Searle. A lot. More than Sparron too.

And worse comes to worse, I don't think she'd hesitate to tell Searle where to shove it. Not that I imagine he'd try to force her into it, but the guy is pretty persistent :S

I don't know whether Lettie's response should rightfully be, "I want a divorce." or hysterical laughter followed by, "GTFO. No really, I want a divorce."

For some reason, I was thinking that Camaline would be the one to put a stopper in this tomfoolery. Trolling brothels is one thing but asking your neighbor to secretly birth your surrogate child with a man who detests her AND whom her husband is in love with, then hand that child over and try to forget the whole ordeal ever happened? Camaline can be ridiculous as any child of Roderick and Geneva is bound to be, but she's not a loony toon.

Also, how is Camaline managing to hang out in brothels without anyone noticing? It would seem that a woman who was willing to go to great lengths to avoid scandal would stay out of the brothels.

Whatever she says, I don't think Searle's having sex tonight.

Oh, Camaline has no idea about this plan (and if Sparron has anything to do with it, it'll probably stay that way). She's certainly not crazy enough to think up something like this herself, but she is getting pretty desperate, so if she thought Lettie was offering... hmmm... :S

Camaline did mentioning borrowing Sparron's clothes in the last post. Presumably she's going incognito. For her sake, I hope she's better at it than Riona.

Posting this comment after the next one, and I'm sorry, but this one is hard to respond to.

Cam needs a child. She's not getting one from Sparron for whatever reason. Why would she agree to a 3 way? Whatever she's doing in brothels, and I'd be there too under the circumstances. But still, a three way? Why? Apart from an excuse to get into bed with Searle. And maybe that's the only reason.

Ah, sorry--it was mentioned a few times earlier, but I guess it wasn't explicitly clear in this one post. Camaline's about twenty and a half and still hasn't had a period, so... well, we know that there's at least a problem on her part. Sparron might be okay on the fertility front, but there's no way of knowing for sure given that his two significant sexual partners are Camaline and Searle.

The theoretical three-way Searle's talking about here wouldn't involve Camaline in practice. That said, if they decide to actually try it, they really should run it by her first.
