Unexpected Hiatus

Cross-posted: Kingdom of Naroni, Tumblr, PBK

So, my laptop is sick and will be going to the computer hospital.

Long story short, I had an issue that was most likely the result of a Windows update, but when I was on the phone with tech support, they had me run diagnostics on the machine just in case, and it kept crashing during the process (even after a bios update), so while they didn't get enough information to pinpoint the exact issue, there is almost definitely some sort of not-yet-fatal, but worth-looking-into hardware problem.

The computer is still functional at the moment--I'm on it right now, not wanting to type this up on my phone--but seeing as it's still under warranty, it doesn't seem like the worst idea to send it in before anything catastrophic happens. I did run a backup between the resolution of the initial issue and the diagnostic tests, so if it turns out to be a hard drive issue, I'll be able to restore my data (though I'm kind of hoping it's something that won't require that, because I'm lazy).

In any case, the lack of laptop means that I won't have access to the game, so as far as my own Sims stuff goes, I'm going to have to take a hiatus. I don't know exactly when I'll get my computer back, since that will depend on how busy the technicians are and just what the issue is and other things I don't feel confident about guessing right now, but I was given a conservative estimate of five to seven business days and was told that they'd phone me with an update on Monday.

The timing is pretty lousy since a ton of other Medieval/Fantasy Sims stories are on hiatus right now (never mind all the other crap in my personal life at the moment), and I'm sorry about that. That said, while I won't be updating or making custom content, I do have my phone and I do have a certain degree of access to my dad's computer, so I will be able to read, comment, and respond to comments (though comments from my phone may be sloppy). I just may not be as prompt as usual.

Thanks for understanding, everyone. Here's hoping it won't be too long a wait.

Announcement: Storyteller Spotlight

Hi everyone!

If you're subscribed to more than one of my blogs, sorry about clogging your feed with the same message multiple times.

Anyway, I'm doing the Storyteller Spotlight interview at the SimStoryTellers community on LiveJournal. If you have any questions (which I hope at least a few of you do, because I'm quite obscure on LiveJournal and it would be nice to have at least a couple questions up there), feel free to ask them at the question post (no LJ account required) and they will be answered in the interview next Monday. When the interview is posted, I'll add the link to the sidebar next to the VSS interview.

Have a great night, all :)

In Which There Came an Extras Blog on LiveJournal out of Nowhere

Okay, so I decided to get a LiveJournal account so I could comment on stuff there without using LiveID (my LiveID hate declaration on the extra blog). Anyway, once I set it up, I figured... why not use it as a sort of "extras" blog for Naroni and Ashelia?

So anyway... my new blog. Probably won't update that one much, but still, why not?

In Which the Kids Are All Grown-Up

Hello all. Today I grew up the three oldest babies, Lorn, Raia, and Leara, to toddlers. I was originally going to edit the appearances of any offspring who visually displeased me, but I've decided against this now. I'm just going to keep them as they are, and if there are any that are just too repulsive... POPULATION CONTROL! They will either leave Naroni to be married/apprenticed/etc., or killed off, depending on my mood (do you ever get so frustrated with life that you just hafta, hafta kill a sim?).

Anyway, I decided to post pictures of all the current babies as adults, just so you can brace yourselves for the potential deaths/disappearances of some of these kids. Actually, I'd say I'm satisfied with six of the eight of them, so that's not too bad, I guess, considering the bad luck I've had with sim genetics in the past. If you don't want to know what they're going to look like as adults until they actually are adults (which will be quite some time), then feel free to skip this post.

I'll also be putting their personalities and the aspirations I picked for them (I've seen a few wants that have inspired whole storylines in my mind, so it is somewhat important to me to pick the right aspiration). They all got their aspirations from one (or in Lyraina's case, both) of their parents. Now, here they are, in order from oldest to youngest:

Prince Ietrin of Naroni
Born: November 30, 1154
Aspiration: Romance (from Geneva... obviously)
Maxis Sign: Aries
Actual Sign: Sagittarius

Sloppy | | | | | | | | | | Neat
Shy | | | | | | | | | Outgoing
Lazy | | | | | | | | | Active
Serious Playful
Grouchy | Nice

Verdict: Ehhhhh, not too bad, I suppose. Could be worse. I'm satisfied with Ietrin's looks. He's not my type, but I'm sure some of the young ladies of Naroni will find him quite attractive. He's definitely more handsome than his father, in my opinion. Shame his personality kind of sucks... oh well, if he gives me the right facial expressions, he'll paint himself a new one in the story.

Lornian of Armion
Born: September 2, 1155
Aspiration: Popularity (from Dalston... somewhat surprisingly)
Maxis Sign: Sagittarius
Actual Sign: Virgo

Sloppy | Neat
Shy | | Outgoing
Lazy | | | | | | | | | | Active
Serious | | | | | | | | | | Playful
Grouchy | | | | | | | | Nice

Verdict: Not the best-looking sim guy out there, if I do say so myself. I can live with Lorn's looks for the most part, except he has some crazy cheek action going on there (he got Dalston's chin and Celina's eyes, and for some strange reason, Maxis made the appearance of the cheeks dependent on the eyes when programming). I haven't quite decided how much this bugs me yet. He looks okay as a teenager, so maybe I'll just keep him around until he's seventeen or eighteen? Or maybe I'll just find him a hair that conceals those weeeeeird features. I do want Leara to eventually be a duchess, and marry a guy who's older than she is, so I would like to keep him around if possible.

Rahileine of Veldora
Born: October 17, 1155
Aspiration: Family (from Alina)
Maxis Sign: Capricorn
Actual Sign: Libra

Sloppy | | | | | | Neat
Shy | | | | Outgoing
Lazy | | Active
Serious | | | | | | | Playful
Grouchy | | | | | | | Nice

Verdict: Not sure I'd call her "pretty"--Raia looks waaaaay too much like her father to be conventionally pretty--but nevertheless, I do like the look of her. Very unique, very interesting, and probably the best-looking girl, with the possible exception of Lyraina. My only complaint is that she got Severin's nose instead of Alina's. It looks fine on her as an adult, and passable on her as a teen, but that nose looks pretty strange on kids and toddlers, as we will see three story chapters from now during a brief childhood flashback of Severin's. Oh well, I don't imagine she'll be looking for a boyfriend before the age of ten, so she should be fine.

Princess Learianna of Naroni
Born: October 20, 1155
Aspiration: Fortune (from Roderick)
Maxis Sign: Scorpio
Actual Sign: Libra

Sloppy | | | | | | | | | | Neat
Shy | | | | | | | | | Outgoing
Lazy | | | | | | | | | Active
Serious | | | Playful
Grouchy | | | Nice

Verdict: Again, not exactly "pretty", but again, interesting look. I will hand it to Leara, she is quite the cutie as a toddler and child. My guess is the adults will be fawning over Leara in the kids' early years, and then the boys will be chasing Raia when they're teens. She may be a little on the plain side, but she's definitely worth keeping. I was sort of wishing she would be somewhat nicer, but neither of her parents have particularly high niceness ratings, so I guess that's sim genetics for you. Oh well, like I said, I play more off of facial expressions than personality. Two notable Naroni residents who also have a niceness rating of three: Halford and Severin. Bet you didn't see that coming.

Evera Ciramel
Born: November 10, 1155
Aspiration: Family (from Thetis)
Maxis Sign: Cancer
Actual Sign: Scorpio

Sloppy | | | | | | | Neat
Shy | Outgoing
Lazy | | | | | | Active
Serious | | | | Playful
Grouchy | | | | | | | | Nice

Verdict: Definitely more plain. Her cheeks are a little odd, but fortunately, I have hairs that can conceal this fairly well. Evera certainly lucked out in the fact that she takes after Thetis more than she does Norwan. She'll never be a great beauty, but hey, Thetis isn't the prettiest lady in Naroni either, and she's generally well-liked among her neighbors, and as far as I can tell, the readers don't exactly hate her either. So I think it's safe to say that Evera will live to her adulthood.

Byrn Ciramel
Born: November 10, 1155
Aspiration: Romance (from Norwan... although if I keep Byrn around, I think I'll break my rule of aspiration inheritance and make him knowledge or fortune. You'll soon know why)
Maxis Sign: Sagittarius (different from his twin sister...?)
Actual Sign: Scorpio

Sloppy | | | | | | Neat
Shy | Outgoing
Lazy | | | | | | | | | | Active
Serious | | | | | | | Playful
Grouchy | Nice

Verdict: *bangs head against desk and cries* I was reeeeeeeeeally hoping Thetis's son would look much better than he turned out. That's kind of a bad picture, so I'm not sure how it looks on anyone else's monitor, but from the eyes downward, he's even uglier than his father, and almost as mean. I can deal with weird noses, but his mouth is especially strange. He an awkward-looking jawline from the time he's a toddler; if anyone dies in infanthood, it will be Byrn. Although maybe I'll keep him around as some ugly old hermit who likes to sit on his porch and yell at kids to get off his lawn... hmmm... I'll decide later.

Hadrinian Indruion (don't think he's actually been in a post outside his mom's baby belly yet...)
Born: December 18, 1155
Aspiration: Fortune (from Adonis)
Maxis Sign: Leo
Actual Sign: Sagittarius

Sloppy | | | | Neat
Shy | | | | | | | | | Outgoing
Lazy | | | | | Active
Serious | | | | | | Playful
Grouchy | | | | Nice

Verdict: He's kind of at a strange angle in that picture (my bad), but I must say, in my personal opinion, definitely the best-looking male offspring these sims have produced so far. He did get his dad's rather large hooked nose, but it suits both of them, I think. I don't doubt that Adonis and Honora will end up producing the most beautiful children overall. Their most likely competition? Severin and Alina. Although as you'll soon see, Halford and Arydath didn't have a bad first effort. Anyway, whatever girl Had ends up marrying will certainly be lucky. I'm going to have him and his wife making babies for as long as possible.

Lyraina Diarn
Born: December 25, 1155 (yaaaaay Christmas)
Aspiration: Fortune (from both Halford and Arydath)
Maxis Sign: Aries
Actual Sign: Capricorn

Sloppy | | | Neat
Shy | | | | | | | | | | Outgoing
Lazy | | | | | | | Active
Serious | | Playful
Grouchy | | | Nice

Verdict: Other than the rather strange-looking mouth, quite nice. As is the case with Raia and Leara, I don't think the word "pretty" is quite applicable, but she certainly has a unique look. Either Lyraina or Raia turns out the best out of the girls, I can't quite decide. Not sure if she'll end up getting a Had, but she'll certainly do much better than a Byrn. I was thinking I would have to change her and her mother's eyes after the Great Reskinning (they're just a recolor of the Maxis ones that I whipped up myself in about five minutes, back in the days when BodyShop would actually open for me), but I kind of like the effect. They give her a sort of wide-eyed, curious quality.

So, any opinions? Anyone you seriously think should cease to swim in the gene pool? Any suggestions for couples in the very distant future? Whatever thoughts you have, please share :)

New chapter soon, promise!

In Which the Author Introduces the Q&A Blog

Hello. I just thought I'd let everyone know that since I was feeling bored today, I've created a Question and Answer blog. I'm not sure how much of a point there was in doing so, but if anyone has any pressing questions in regards to Naroni, feel free to pop in there and leave your question as a comment wherever you feel it's appropriate. For future reference, the link can be found under the "Useful Links" on the side of the page.

Of course, feel free to also ask questions on this site too.

Now, in a weak attempt to apologize for needlessly interrupting your day, here are the rest of the old age/sex change pictures I had lying around. The first one, King Roderick's, can be found here. Excuse the poor quality of these pictures, they're pretty old. Have a nice day, everyone! *runs off to finish next Ashelia chapter*

In Which a Merry Christmas Is Wished All Around!

Merry Christmas to whoever may be reading this! Or whatever you celebrate! :)

I tried to get some shots of the group in modern clothing, but apparently my game can't handle sixteen controllables at once, so because I can't actually post the next chapter yet (not finished-- SEVENTY FREAKING PICTURES! May need to split it into two chapters if I can find a decent breaking point...), I give you... quickie wedding recaps! *waits for applause* *crickets chirp*

Roderick and Geneva--August 7, 1153

Nothing too special here, folks. Roderick is the second son of King Farilon of Dovia. Both he and his older brother Oswald married daughters of earls--Oswald married Medea's younger sister Athalia, and Roderick got Geneva, also the younger of two sisters. Her older sister is the comically undesirable Eudocia, who ended up marrying Severin's half brother Rudolphus... but more on that later. Of course, neither were particularly thrilled with the match. Roderick is completely uninterested in anything romantic or sexual. All he cares about is power and money (or the illusion of), so really the only thing he got out of it was his heir, Ietrin, unless you count the fact that Geneva is something of a prize, which he could interpret as representing his status as a "winner". As for Geneva, she doesn't mind having someone to jump every night, but you can just tell she'd rather be unmarried and free to have sex with whoever the hell she wants. Not that her marriage really stops her, mind you...

They had a typical royal wedding at Farilon's castle. All of the nobles now living in Naroni were in attendance. Geneva's ladies were Medea, Athalia, Eudocia, and Roderick's sister Holladrin, while Roderick's men were Oswald, Rudolphus, Geneva's brother Karlspan, and Medea's brother Cambrin.

Dalston and Celina--November 29, 1154

As we know, Dalston was given the hand of Farilon's niece Celina in marriage in exchange for accompanying Roderick into exile. Celina, of course, was simultaneously thrilled and frightened by the idea. She loved Dalston, but found him to be very much above her. Unbeknownst to her, Dalston too thought himself unworthy of his innocent new spouse, due to his past behavior (we know he had some sort of altercation with Geneva, and, realistically, he probably slept with a few maids before he got married). But as we all know, they finally admitted their love to each other right after their son's birth, and lived happily ever after. OR WILL THEY?

They had a fairly small, impromptu wedding. It was elegant, of course, seeing as they were both nobles and she was the niece of the king, but no invites were sent to any distant relations, only Farilon's family and Dalston's brother's attended. Celina's ladies were Holladrin and Athalia, while Dalston's men were Oswald and his brother Arkon.

Octavius and Medea--February 12, 1152

Medea had been angry with her father since her younger sister Athalia married Prince Oswald in 1150. The way she saw it, she, as the older sister, should be the first one married, but Oswald had asked specifically for Athalia and her father had accepted. So it was that pretty much every man of standing in Naroni was married or promised, the exception being Dalston, who Medea refused to marry out of loyalty to Geneva, who had always had a thing for him. So it got to the point where she started throwing tantrums and screaming at her father to find her a husband. Octavius, who was the eighth and last son of a lesser Dovian lord, was studying to be a priest at the time. His first three brothers had all married, but the next four had all gone on to become priests, and he was to do the same until his father was approached by Medea's, who pretty much begged him to let Octavius marry Medea. Medea, of course, wasn't thrilled with this, since Octavius was below her station (her father was an earl) and her sister was going to be the next Queen of Dovia. Needless to say, she and Athalia aren't on particularly good terms.

Since Medea "couldn't undergo such a humiliating marriage publicly", it was a small ceremony, with just their fathers, siblings, and Geneva present. Medea's only lady was Geneva, and Octavius's only man was his brother Tertius.

Severin and Alina--November 25, 1154

As we know, Severin and Alina were pretty much in love with each other since they were little more than babies. However, Alina had been promised to Severin's brother Rudolphus shortly after she was born. Rudolphus never caught Alina's interest, since he's not too bright and rather boring, and he really never paid any attention to her until she got old enough for him to find sexually appealing. Severin, being the bastard second son, was supposed to enter the priesthood. He nearly completed his training, but then one night, he decided "What the hell, I'm going to go elope with the love of my life", ran away from the monastery he was studying at, bribed the randomly-selected Adonis to witness the proceedings, rode to Alina's father's castle, climbed through her window, and begged her to marry him that very night--which happened to be the eve of her wedding to Rudolphus. She agreed, and they hurried off to a nearby village church where they were hastily wed, then went back to Alina's room and had sex (a first for Alina--Severin might have had a few little "encounters" with some maids). Unfortunately, her mother found them the next morning. She didn't react too strongly though; just kind of a "well, congratulations, maybe leave before your father finds out about this" sort of thing. So they pretty much wandered around Dovia with Adonis and Honora for a few months, then finally settled in Naroni.

Adonis and Honora--January 3, 1155

One night, Adonis was minding his own business when Severin barged into his house and asked him to witness his marriage proceedings. Adonis said "Yeah, sure, why the hell not?" and went through with the plan. In exchange, Severin promised that he would somehow make Adonis the poor peasant farmer a middle-class gentleman. Alina then offered him the hand of her maid, Honora, in marriage.

They got married in a random Dovian church once they both decided they were ready. Severin and Alina witnessed, but other than that, there were no guests. As such, Alina was Honora's only lady, and Adonis's only man was Severin (although they got more help than Severin and Alina themselves--those two pretty much undressed each other. Not that they really minded).

Florian and Electra--October 27, 1154

As we shall see in the next post, Florian was pretty close to his older brother Hamrick, who was Electra's first husband. However, Hamrick got sick when Florian was quite young, and as a result, Florian was not exactly a model of good behavior in his youth. He was eventually arrested on multiple theft charges and sent to the king's dungeon. Farilon toyed with the idea of executing him, but then he decided that the charges weren't severe enough. At the same time, however, keeping Florian in jail was a waste of tax money, so he decided he'd let Florian go on the condition he was out of the country by the beginning of 1155. Florian's mother died shortly after Florian was released from prison. While on her deathbed, she told Florian and Electra each seperately that she thought they should get married. They came to this agreement while they buried her, then had a quickie, sinfully unromantic wedding at the local chapel, went home, and went to bed in seperate rooms without so much as a hug. They still haven't slept together. If they did, I'm fairly sure Electra would be thinking of Hamrick the entire time; Florian would probably think the girls he used to roll in the haystacks with back in Dovia were better.

Halford and Arydath--July 16, 1154

Halford and Arydath's wedding is the one we know the least about, which is a shame because it's one of the more interesting ones. Basically, Halford and Arydath grew up on neighboring farms in Dovia. One day, when Halford was nine and Arydath was four, Halford decided it would be terribly funny to push Arydath into the stream that marked the boundary between his family's lands and her family's lands. Arydath got back at him the next day by greasing the udders of his milk cow. They continued pranking each other like this for years, until it got to the point where Arydath decided she'd end it once and for all with the ultimate prank. She'd seduce him, then lie about being pregnant with his baby a few weeks later. However, her mother overheard her telling Halford about the fake pregnancy, and fell for it just as easily as he did. She then pretty much forced the two of them to the alter that very day. After the ceremony, Arydath told Halford that she was actually not pregnant, but he said he didn't really care, since the prank had given him an excuse to marry her. He then confessed he had been in love with her since she was twelve. She admitted that she also loved him, and then they decided they'd do something romantic... like run off to another country.

Norwan and Thetis--September 11, 1154

Following the deaths of her parents, Thetis went to live with her uncle. He was a lazy, drunken farmer who was up to his neck in debt to Norwan. One day, Norwan decided he'd had enough and went to the house, demanding payment. Thetis's uncle told Norwan he didn't have any money, but he did have a thirteen-year-old niece that he wanted to marry off. Norwan, in a moment of "generosity", agreed.

He married Thetis the next week, with just her uncle present. She didn't get any ladies on her wedding night. Norwan undressed her himself, then proceeded to rape her. He then took her off to Naroni where they didn't know anyone, so he could do as he pleased. Chances are, her uncle doesn't even realize they're gone.

So I know there's no way this is anywhere near as enjoyable as an actual post, but a little extra information never hurt anyone--it just makes a somewhat boring Christmas present. Nevertheless, Merry Christmas! Next year, something better, I promise!

In Which the Family Trees Hit Tribal Pages

So I finally put up the family trees of everyone in the story! Yay!

The link can be found on the right side of the page. If you follow it, you'll need the following information:

Access code: naroni

Now, you'll notice a few things with the family trees. First of all, the higher classes have much more detailed ancestry than the lower classes. Because the higher classes would have been inbreeding for quite some time, all of the main noble characters are either first, second, or third cousins, and I had to work out all those connections by tracing their ancestry all the way to their great-grandparents. Any great-grandparents with the same last name can be assumed to be siblings. The peasants... not so much. Of the peasants that have been introduced, the only one with parents on his family tree is Florian, and only because his late brother had a connection to another character (Electra).

Also, since Tribal Pages is evil and only lets you put up fifty pictures for free, many of the character pages have an unlinked URL on their page. If you copy the link into an address bar in a new tab or window, you'll get a Lothere-esque picture of the person and, if they have them, their spouse and children. It's kind of a pain in the ass to go through all that, but hey, blame Tribal Pages. All the main people do have their pictures up right on the site, though, as well as any surviving siblings and parents that I've made Sims for.

The characters' last names can be found in the labels at the bottom of each post, but since they aren't the kind of thing that immediately catches the eye, I'll list the names here:

Andronei: a noble family in Dovia. None of the main characters have this last name, but a few of the nobles have some ancestors in this family. Alina's oldest sister married an Andronei, as did Severin's father.
Callcevern: another Dovian noble family that none of the main characters belong to directly. One of Octavius's sister-in-laws is a Callcevern, as is Alina's mother.
Calvel: a brother and sister pair I made from two townies to help fill up the village I'm making.
Carpion: This is Honora's family, although she's the only one with that name currently. I will eventually add her siblings when I need them in, and in order to do that, I'll need to add her parents as well.
Charveil: a modified NPC for the village.
Ciramel: Norwan and his kids. I don't imagine he has siblings, so I doubt there will be anymore additions to this family tree, unless he starts raping Thetis again.
Corran: a former townie now living in the village.
Dalvein: Medea's maid. I don't remember exactly why I made her. She's a romance aspiration, so maybe I could make her double as one of the "local whores" Norwan was talking about.
Deletra: Sister Elwyna.
Denvus: Aldhein, currently working at the castle as Roderick's steward and Geneva's sex slave.
Diarn: Halford and his daughter. He and Arydath will definitely be having more kids.
Eliwaine: the late wife of the local dirty old man. The only reason she had to be on the family tree is because the dirty old man has his daughter-in-law and grandkids living with him, so I needed to make him have a son.
Fedurin: just Arydath. She may or may not have siblings. If I decide she does, they and her parents will be up on the family tree.
Fenswein: Funny story. So I downloaded that set of default replacement medieval maternity clothes off of MTS2, but I noticed when I made Geneva start to show that she had the same one as Celina, so I used InSim to impregnate Geneva's former townie maid via a repairman who was on the lot for some reason just to see if she got the same one. She did (as did every woman in the neighborhood, which is why I now mainly everyday dresses with pregnant bumps), but InSim wouldn't abort a second trimester pregnancy without leaving the pregnant belly, so I reimpregnated the maid via the repairman, had her give birth, and grew her daughter up to adult to make another townie. The repairman was later selected to go and live in the village, so his family tree had to go up, and since he's about the same age as a lot of the characters' dads, I decided he had a daughter back in Dovia, so I just used his in-game daughter. Her mother is his late wife. She's not dead in the game, but she's one of those townies who are just too ugly to be allowed to live on a lot, so I'm just keeping her around in case I need a clone of someone.
Frey: This would be the aforementioned repairman and his daughter.
Gren: just Electra. My database says she has a brother, but I doubt he'll even ever be mentioned, so he's not on the family tree.
Havlei: another one of the chosen NPCs. I think she was a grocery delivery girl.
Indruion: Adonis and his son. Adonis is an only child, so no detailed ancestry for him.
Jamoran: Roderick's family, the Royal Family of Dovia and Naroni.
Jayden: a former Maxis gardener now dwelling in the village.
Kaswick: yet another NPC who now lives in the village. If I remember correctly, he was a cop.
Kelistine: Medea's family, the Earls of Sarona.
Kemorin: Severin's family, the Dukes of Luperia and Lords of Veldora.
Kiarick: just the guy Laveria married when Severin was like, ten. He's dead now.
Larona: just Thetis, another only child. The only way she'll ever get some ancestors up there is if her uncle comes into the story. If that happens, she'll get not only parents, but grandparents too.
Lowan: a random townie that the repairman's daughter married.
Maesflein: another one of my made-over NPCs. He's a teenager, a former sales clerk, so he's currently an apprentice the the repairman, who is now a butcher.
Minara: Geneva's family, the Earls of Bandera.
Mokonri: Dalston's family, the Lords of Beretrin and Dukes of Armion.
of Ashtoreth: Laveria, who lacks a proper last name. Since she's got a fairly mysterious past, her ancestors are not listed.
Revin: a former pizza girl now working as the landlady at the village inn.
Sadiel: Alina's family, the Counts of Valcria.
Selvar: Florian and Hamrick's late mother, all by her lonesome.
Tamrion: Octavius's family, the Lords of Felonis and Barons of Tetran.
Telwyn: another recently relocated townie.
Tumekrin: Florian and Hamrick and their dad.
Vilran: daughter-in-law to the local dirty old man. Interestingly enough, my database says this is also the maiden name of Thetis's mother. Hmmm...
Wythleit: the local dirty old man, who will definitely be coming into the story at some point, his late son, and his grandkids. His eldest grandson is Severin's steward and will be making an appearance in the next post.
Ysettra: Celina's family, the Counts of Tagrien. They're doomed though. The only surviving Ysettras are Celina and her female cousin, who is married to one of Octavius's brothers. The Countship, therefore, now belongs to the Tamrions (which should really boost Medea's opinion of Octavius, but it doesn't).

Also, now that I've actually worked all this out, I've realized that there is a slight error. I think I've made some reference to Severin and Celina being first cousins, which they are not. They are only third cousins. However, I can explain this. Celina grew up with Roderick and his siblings, who are actually first cousins to Severin. As a child, Severin would have come to associate Celina with King Farilon's kids, since I'm sure he would have been told something like "We're going to visit your cousins" as opposed to "We're going to visit your cousins and Celina". Therefore, while Celina isn't actually his first cousin, she might as well be.

In Which the Author Rants about Hair

As an insomniac, I am frequently awake and bored in the late hours, so here I am, putting up a post about one of my own little observations. Please bear with me here :)

Okay, so I was taking pictures for the next post, and I realized something. Near the end of the next post, Thetis changes her hairstyle. Now, this really has nothing to do with anything, just a random observation I made that I thought was kind of cool, and maybe worth sharing. Now that Thetis has changed her hairstyle, it would seem that the every woman's hairstyle represents her relationship with her husband.

Geneva:

Geneva's hairstyle is both tight and elegant, two words that can be used to describe her relationship with Roderick, which is really more for show than anything. However, if you look closely, you'll notice a few stray hairs poking out in various places, and some that look as though they are struggling to free themselves of their binds, much like Geneva herself, as we've seen with the steward, as well as her seeming attraction to Dalston.

Celina:

Lina's hairstyle is very beautiful, but quite delicate, much like her and Dalston's budding relationship. Also, you can tell just by looking at it that it takes a lot of time and effort to get all that hair into place, but in the end, it's worth it.

Medea:

Medea is unique in the fact that she is the only woman for which a restrained hairstyle is indicative of the upper hand in her marriage. There is never a hair out of place, and whole look screams strictly business, which is exactly what her relationship with Octavius is.

Alina:

Alina's hair hangs free and daintily unrestrained, which is exactly how Severin makes her feel. That hairstyle is just so... Alina. Beautiful, perfectly suited to her, and very flattering, it is the kind of hair that never fails to make other women jealous.

Honora:

Like Alina, Honora has a youthful, free hairstyle, representing her new-found freedom in her husband. However, from certain angles, a good part of Honora's face is concealed, indicative of the fact that she and Adonis are essentially mysteries to one another, whereas Alina's hair generally stays out of her face, as there are no secrets in her marriage.

Electra:

Electra's hair is kind of a mess. There's an illusion of freedom to it, as it does hang long and curls where it wants to curl, but at the same time, it would take a while to comb out those tangles and wash out all that grime. Such is Electra's relationship with Florian--since they're not in love, Florian wouldn't care if she had an affair or anything, but she really doesn't have time for that since she's stuck nursing him back to health, possibly in vain.

Arydath:

Arydath uses her green scarf to keep her hair back, giving the illusion of containment, but when she takes it off, it flows freely and somewhat wildly. As seen in the last post, Arydath acts controlled and submissive to Halford when in the company of others, but when she and her husband are alone... Halford, watch out!

Thetis:

This new hairstyle Thetis is sporting, which is what brought on this post, is a tight, unyielding style of almost total restraint. Try as you might, that hairstyle is not about to come undone easily. Thetis is completely dominated by Norwan in every way, and as much as she wants to escape, like that short lock you can see dangling at the top of her forehead, she's basically stuck.

And so concludes my first little author's rant. Hopefully it wasn't a total waste of time :)

In Which the Author Makes Pathetic Excuses

Just a shout out to everyone who might be reading this, sorry that I'm taking so long with the next post. Basically, it only functions to introduce two characters I have a feeling I'll need later, so I'm really struggling to get it done. I open the document, stare at the pictures, and have absolutely no idea what to write. Which sucks, because I have the post after that all thought out perfectly :(

So it may still be a few more days. In the meantime, here's a lovely picture of King Roderick as a toddler, child, teen, and woman. Sorry about this!
