In Which Asalaye Is Not Sufficiently Distracted

April 8, 1176

"Again! Again!"

Asalaye's nephew shrieked with delight as she tossed him into the air once more. "Again!"

"Again? Auntie's arms are starting to hurt." Hal pouted, Had's own lip curling outward. Was this what Asalaye's children would look like to? That was certainly Cord's nose, though Lyraina wore it much better. Maybe Hal would luck out and break it at some point. "You're getting too big for this."

"Again!"

He had his namesake's eyes, or so Lyraina said. Cord had his mother's eyes, inkblot eyes... but then again so did Lyraina. If she could have a baby with blue eyes, then why couldn't her brother? Blue eyes, auburn hair, long and pointy noses.

Double cousins. They'd look like siblings. They practically would be.

Oh, but she was getting ahead of herself. Cord probably hadn't even asked for her hand yet. She hadn't even made love to him. She almost had, once--in the hayloft of her father's barn some months back, but she'd grabbed her clothes and fled. That was her and Lonriad's place; it just felt too odd to make love to Cord while another boy's face kept popping up everywhere.

Poor Cord. He was probably still feeling awkward about that day--like he'd done something wrong. She supposed she'd have to make it up to him.

"Again?"

Oh, thank God for her nephew. Such a welcome distraction, even if he did look exactly like her own future babies. "No, you silly boy... but how about some tickles?"

The little boy shrieked with laughter as he writhed about in her arms, struggling to avoid her fingers. "No!"

"Yes!" A little giggly herself, she pulled her hand from his little armpit and tapped him on the nose. "Oh, you wouldn't have been laughing if you hadn't enjoyed that."

A stubborn scowl formed on his little mouth. He favored his mother in the face, but just then, he was the spitting image of his father--her brother. "No."

Asalaye sighed. There really was no arguing with a not-quite-three-year-old. "Fine, have it your way. Just give Auntie a kiss."

Hal landed a sloppy kiss on her cheek, then wiped his mouth with his sleeve and peered around the room as she bounced him up and down. "Where's Uncle Cord?"

It figured that he would ask that--it really did. "He's, uh... he's with your grandfather."

Puzzled, her nephew frowned. "Under church rock?"

"No." Asalaye swallowed. "Your other grandfather."

Yes, I know this was supposed to be up yesterday, but I had to write a screenplay for a class and that ended up devouring most of my evening :S

Anyway, if that preview pic looks a bit... umm, retro... it's because it was taken on my old computer, which I am using right now. New computer wouldn't start yesterday. Called Dell, ran diagnostics, turns out the hard drive is faulty. They're sending someone to replace it in a few days.

Fortunately, I did a backup pretty much immediately before it died, so expected data loss is little to none. Not sure how many updates I can put out before the new hard drive is installed, however. The next Naroni post I need pictures for is on Isidro's lot, which does not exist on this computer. Also, I believe the next Realmspeaker is supposed to be at Farrel and Lucia's new apartment, but there may be one I can squeeze ahead of it. If need be, I'll think up a filler Naroni too.

In any case, I'll keep you posted.

Oh noes! Faulty hard drive? How sucktastic. :(

And I love that little kid! May he be as awesome as all his ancestors. :D Asalaye is, as usual, pretty damn awesome herself.

But when is Lonriad going to get off his butt and move after the girl? Time's a wasting, lad! You'll lose her if you don't act soon!

Lucky for me, they got right on it and replaced it today! :D

In the process of downloading my essential programs right now. I have an essay to write tonight, though, so Sims will have to wait until tomorrow :(

Hal is a little cutie, isn't he? Even if he did get that nose :P

Lonriad... really does need to come up with some sort of gesture. But who knows? Maybe the stars are beginning to line up ;)

Lonriad, ever present in his absence.

You know, I don't understand her attraction to Cord at all. He has nothing going for him. No personality. And I don't mean to sound pragmatic but a more enterprising girl would try to bag one of Lord Severin's sons, no question. Also, Lonriad is the better looking of the two. Why choose boring Cord over fun Lonriad? What is wrong with this chick?

To be honest, I think Asalaye's attraction to Cord has pretty much run its course. He was older when she first got interested, a boy who was pretty much a man and had his own farm and everything while Lonriad still had cooties.

At this point? I think she's used to the idea of marrying Cord and finds it tolerable, but if either she or Lonriad made some kind of move, I believe that would be it ;)

I can understand Asalaye's feelings. Cord was interesting and fun for a while, and she's gotten accustomed to thinking of marrying him. Is it the same spark between her and Lonriad? No, but then you don't always get to marry the one you really want.

I think she understands what she's feeling more clearly than Lonriad does, though. He's obviously smitten with the girl but he keeps looking elsewhere.

That pretty much sums up Asalaye's feelings right there.

Yeah, I think she has more of a clue than Lonriad does, even if she doesn't dwell on it as long as he does.
