Raia's friend and his woman had been arguing for a while now--a good angle of the sun, at least. She hadn't been lying when she'd said that things weren't going so well. Vaguely, Tavrin wondered how things had gotten so out of hand between them. He and Atala fought, his sister and her man fought, his grandparents fought... but never like this. This was more than a disagreement, more than a simple difference of opinion--much more.
"Oh, like hell you will, you spineless mass of vomit!"
"Don't think I won't!"
"As if I couldn't! You don't have the guts to walk out of here!"
"I'm at my breaking point, Ailede! Fourteen years of putting up with all of your shit, and what do I get in return? Nothing!"

Exalted Ancestors! How long could they go on like this? If there were any children, Tavrin hoped they were out of the house; he'd only ever known one parent, but if he'd had two, he didn't think he would have wanted to hear something like this. Well... unless they were both horrible like this crazy lady, maybe. That might have been amusing. Did the Dovans have a word for that? The Germans did, he was sure of it; he wondered if he might have been feeling that now if the man hadn't been Raia's friend.
Not to mention, if he hadn't felt pressed for time and wasn't sick of waiting for the man to leave already.
"What the hell are you talking about? Don't you realize how much I've done for you, you worthless ingrate?"
"What you've done for me? What you've done for me?" Through the window, Tavrin could see the man's fist hit the kitchen table, the resulting thud! audible in spite of the stone walls. "You treat the children like chopped liver, waste my money on things you never even use, can't be arsed to bring in any income or even take care of the God damn house, and fuck around with everyone but me! By God, when your sister went to the convent, I should have sent you right along with her!"

The man opened the door and stormed out, fire in his eyes and mouth and movement though the air was pure ice. The woman was an even sorrier sight; Tavrin couldn't help but recall the time he and Atala had once watched that one Dovan family's angry old sow give birth. "If you leave this house, don't think for one second that you'll be welcome back!"
"Fine by me!" He stepped outside and slammed the door behind him. His fury still burning, he let out a livid roar and strode up the path toward the road, overlooking Tavrin entirely; even if he had noticed him, the man was clearly in no mood to talk.
And yet, that was precisely why Tavrin was there. "Hey!"
The Dovan--what had Raia said his name was? Faldor?--froze. "Who's there?"
Tavrin hurried alongside the path and cut in front of him, stringing together a bit of the man's language in his mind before letting it fly from his mouth. "You is Faldor, yes?"
An eyebrow arched, the man gave a wary nod. "And, uh... what the hell are you supposed to be?"

He was asking who he was--as if that was important. "I am friend to Raia, but no matters. You go to castle now."
"I was just heading there." The man lunged as if to sidestep, but Tavrin was not to be out-maneuvered by a mere human. "Now, if you just--"
"Wait!" Annoyed, the man glared at him; he chose to ignore this. "You hurry to castle and warn father of Raia, yes? You hurry to castle and tell father of Raia--"
"Tell him what?" the man roared, clearly at the end of his rope.
Tavrin scowled; he could take a hint. "Know what? Forget it!"

I am so happy to see Falidor standing up to Ailede! But I have a feeling this is another one of those moments when something awful is going to happen and Tavrin was hoping to enlist Falidor's help to prevent it.
And that look on Severin's face is very telling...
Woah, that was fast :D
Yeah, it's about time Falidor stood up for himself--bad timing on Tavrin's part, though O_o
If Severin's face is any indication, Tavrin made no further attempts to pass the message :S
Thanks Gayl :)
Uh Oh!! Bad Moon is on the rise!
But Yay for Falidor standing up for himself. Just a bit too late I'm worrying.
And Tavrin. You're standing there naked, saying you're Raia's friend, and he's not going to be short with you after a big fight with his wife? LMAO
LOL! :D
But yeah, an ill omen indeed. Things are going to get pretty ugly pretty fast... :S
Thanks Kiri :)
YES! You go, Falidor! I'm happy to see you stand up for yourself! I still think you shouldn't have to leave your house (even though your new one is so much nicer), you should have kicked HER out instead. And without a penny to her name, worthless cheating bitch that she is!
Actually I was gaping at the screen for a minute there, when she was raving about what she's done for him. What's wrong with her?? Is she delusional? What, pray, does she think she has done for him? I'm really curious what kind of halluzination that woman is under!
But poor Tavrin! Here he's trying to be helpful and what does he get for his pains? I'm guessing Raia hasn't been out of the castle, so he couldn't pass his message to her. I don't think he knows (of) any other Dovan with a direct connection to Severin?
I'm curious about Atala. She's the mother of Tavrin's little girl, yes? How does she fit in there and where does she come from? I was under the impression that there were only Tavrin and his direct relatives. So is she a Dovan then?
Surely she isn't his cousin or anthing, right? Right??
Like he said, he probably should've kicked her out along with her sister, but this was before that on incident with Raia. Also, he probably didn't want his kids to lose their mom (even if she isn't much of one).
Ailede has a pretty low opinion of Falidor. I think she thinks she motivates him to work harder (by spending all his money), and maybe she thinks she saved him as a teenager from being some awkward virginal loser (which admittedly he sort of was, but he probably could've found someone else soonish). She came from a royally messed-up household, so she probably has little to know idea as to how people function :S
Yeah, Raia hasn't been around Tavrin's neck of the woods lately. Her new baby brother was just born on Christmas Eve, so everyone at the castle is probably still busy doting over him :P
Tavrin is a notorious spy, especially in the areas around the castle. He probably figured out Falidor's connection to Severin before his connection to Raia.
Atala is Tavrin's cousin, and the mother of his daughter. There were only the two sets of twins in their generation of the family, so the only other choice was his sister (who actually has a son with Atala's brother--easiest matchmaking ever).
Ailede is one women who gives women a bad name. Shrew. Fish wife. If there was any way Falidor could send her somewhere anywhere, I'd cheer him on!
does Tavrin know about Raia and Falidor?
Yeah, Falidor just needs to get Ailede out of his life at this point :(
Tavrin sort of guessed at Falidor and Raia--he referred to Falidor as Raia's "sexy friend"--but the thing about Tavrin is that you can never really tell if he's joking or not.
No, Falidor, don't chase the strange naked man off!
... The strange naked man who's been running around with the woman you want for years ...
But damn, it was good to see him finally standing up to Ailede! How much you want to bet that the kids will all want to move in with him? (And how much do you want to bet that Falidor will be enthusiastically in favor of that, even if only two of them are actually his kids? ;))
Heheheh :D
I'm sure Falidor wants the kids to live with him at least half the time, if not all the time. After the initial shock, they'll probably want to live with him too--unless something happens with Raia. I can't imagine Fenrick and Riala, at least, would be comfortable living with a stepmother who was only two years their senior :S
