"Good night, Princess," yawned Severin into Alina's ear, planting one last kiss on her shoulder and slinging his arm around her waist.
...That was it? After all that, he'd just... what? Why? Was he out of his mind? She hadn't been expecting that at all!

"Severin?" she addressed him, confused.
His brown eyes flickered open. "Mmm?"
"What was--why--what?"
"Oh, that," he sighed dismissively; she couldn't claim to care for his indifferent tone. "Well, I just figured that the last thing we need right now as an eighth child under the age of seven. Sorry if it isn't quite as enjoyable as usual, but it's better than just keeping to ourselves, correct?"

"Well, it doesn't always work, you know," Alina muttered bluntly--hopefully--as she slipped out of the bed. As much as she loved him, she did not think she could stand to lie beside him at this moment. Perhaps she should have told him; maybe if he knew, he would have continued as usual. But no... she knew what Octavius had done to Medea the moment he realized that she was truly mad. Alina, of course, was not crazy... but if she told Severin, he would think she was.
As she stepped onto the wooden floor, Severin began to stir, slowly kicking off the covers and pulling himself to his feet. "Alina? Are you all right?"
"I'm fine," she lied hastily. Fine... she had been fine two months earlier, when this gaping void inside her body--inside her soul--had been filled with the presence of her daughter. Now that young Laveria had been born, she was an entirely separate entity, just like her siblings before her; once again, Alina was without a piece of herself.

"You don't seem fine," Severin mused as he made his way around the bed. "Is it really that bad? We could do that again if you want--normally. Your monthly still hasn't returned, so maybe we're in the clear."
He didn't understand at all, did he? Ordinarily, he could see right through her; why wasn't it obvious to him that she wanted--needed--another baby?
"Maybe it just hasn't returned because I'm pregnant again?" ventured Alina; even if Severin wasn't going to keep pulling stunts like this, she did hope her musing was true.

"I doubt it, Princess," he argued softly as he embraced her--it seemed he thought the he was reassuring her, the poor, confused man! "I mean... it's possible, but a lot of times, women don't start bleeding again for a while. Laveria's not even two months old yet, so I imagine you're fine."
Hadn't they conceived Searle at around this amount of time following Jadin's birth? She found a small trace of comfort in that thought; for all she knew, Severin was just trying to tell himself what he wanted to hear.

She decided to indulge him. "Maybe."
He replied with a smile--one she wished that she could honestly return. "I suppose we'll know soon enough--but for now, let's just hope for the best, shall we?"
Swallowing back a sob, Alina nodded; if only he knew just how different their ideas of 'the best' were.

"Meanwhile, please try to cheer up," requested Severin, gently raising Alina's chin with his fingers. "You know how I hate to see you sad, Princess; is there anything I can do?"
Yes! she wanted scream. Give me another baby! For the love of God, please!
But alas, she found she could only shake her head. "No. Let's just... forget about this, all right? We both need some sleep."

"You're right," he agreed, "as always. Let's just get back in the bed and go to sleep."
You're right, as always. Well, he wouldn't have thought that if he'd known about this.

Just to assure you all right off the bat... for the record, Alina is NOT pregnant.
Also, because I highly doubt I'll get another chapter up tomorrow: Lothere, if you're reading this, happy early birthday! *cue party music*
Is Alina really afraid that Severin is going to lock her in a dungeon somewhere? Actually, I do kinda have to wonder what Severin would do if he thought that Alina was mad.
"Is it really that bad? We could do that again if you want--normally."
Does he mean right NOW? Holy crap Severin, put some ice on that thing!
Heheheheh... he didn't say right that minute. They'd have to wait a bit.
I have no idea what Severin would do if he thought Alina was mad, but I don't think he'd lock her in a dungeon. If he felt the need to lock her up, he'd probably pick a more comfortable room.
Why can't she see that Severin doesn't WANT another kid and just be happy with the SEVEN that she has? I'm gonna start calling her Octomom or something! *crosses fingers that she doesn't get knocked up again...EVER!*
Severin is my kinda guy!!;)~
With another baby, she could be Octomom :P
But the question is, WILL she be Octomom? And if so, will she then lock Severin in the dungeon after he's lost his marbles? :D
It would have to be a very comfortable, kinky dungeon--I mean, he's out of his mind, but he's still her own personal sperm bank :P
Oh dear Alina really needs some hormones or something. Too bad Post Partum hadnt been thought of at that time, LOL!
Poor Severin, he really really doesnt want another child and yet he is still so in love with his beloved princess he would give her anything she wanted or desired. Gee he's going to be a raving lunatic by the end, that our sprout a fluffy tail and long ears. 80)
I love all of your characters they are so human in their cadence 80)
Wonderful Read 80)
Yeah, the poor girl really needs to talk to someone. Unfortunately, the medieval opinion was postpartum = MADNESS :(
I imagine in a few years, when all of their children are old enough to be reasonably independent, Severin might open up to the idea of a few more... but for now, it's waaaaay out of hand. I age toddlers to children at five, so of the seven of them, the only one that's even in the child stage at this point is Raia (although Jadin will be a child soon, and actually I have aged him up in the game). Severin just doesn't want to be juggling so many very young kids at once--and really, who can blame him? Most people probably go insane at the thought of even having seven reasonably spread out children, so he gets credit there.
Thanks Cheri :)
I love how Severin calls her Princess. It is just so endearing to hear it. These two really need to try some open honest talk however. They keep going like this and they will BOTH be locked in a dungeon.
Yeah, they're both slowly going crazy like this. I doubt they will talk about it though, just because Alina is so dead-set on not talking about it. It's only just now that Severin has some suspicion that Alina's having a bit of an issue, but all that will lead to is the classic:
"Are you all right?"
"I'm fine."
"No, you're not."
"Yes, I am."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes! Shut up!"
:(
Ach! I confess, I am only just catching up with Naroni. I had no idea it had been so long! SECKS chapter for my birthday! *flings stale confetti*
Maybe I am just drunk, but I couldn't quite figure out what he did or did not do up there?
(Heheh why do I have the feeling I've said that before? Must have been college!)
Um, anyway, did he just pull out or what?
(Or did I say that before too...?)
(Definitely drunk.)
Poor Alina... but I guess it makes sense. She feels fine when she's pregnant, but has these horrible hormone crashes and dark thoughts right after she gives birth. You can't blame the poor lady. She's had enough kids to have figured out the pattern. But to anyone who hasn't had that happen to them (including all men and many women)... you're right, they'll just think she's going batty. :-(
Pfffft, don't worry about it :P *joins in confetti flinging*
Yeah, he pulled out. "The preferred method of birth control of idiots everywhere," to quote my grade 12 bio teacher, but they didn't really have anything else back in the day. Other than abstinence, of course, which is no fun.
Madness is an especially sensitive issue among the Naroni nobility right now, with everything that's going on with Medea. But yeah, since Alina knows the pattern, she herself knows she's not crazy... but since they aren't in her shoes, other people might, and that's what scares her... to an extent, anyway. What's going on in her own head scares her too.
